While we are not a ‘sports’ camp – sports have been an important (and fun) part of Camp Life since our first summer in 1913. We strongly believe that playing sports is a great way for Campers to develop new skills, build community, learn how to compete in an appropriate way, and more importantly… have fun. In fact, Sportsmanship is one of the key ingredients of the William Lawrence Camp Spirit.
Sports takes on many forms at camp from our Gaga pits, to our dedicated arena courts and athletic fields and there is always a game to join.
Our beloved waterfront on Lower Beech Pond is always bustling with activity: swimming lessons, open swimming, water trampoline, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, row boats, fishing, snorkeling, water skiing, tubing and (new this year) log rolling.
On shore we have a beach volleyball and tennis court, our new lawn game center, a classroom, changing rooms and bathrooms, and of course quiet places for hanging out and enjoying the views.
The Great Outdoors are a core feature of the William Lawrence Camp Experience. Our 250 acre camp features rolling hills, wild forest, miles of trails, and lake access – all of which make the perfect classrooms for teaching Wilderness Skills. Activities include: shelter building, fire starting, orienteering, plant & animal identification, and woodworking.
We also have an exciting and safe Target Sports program that includes riflery, skeet shooting, archery, ax & knife throwing.
William Lawrence Camp is located in the heart of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region and a short distance from the wild and rugged White Mountains. This makes the Knoll the perfect basecamp for adventures and excursions into some of the best natural areas of New England.
Our youngest campers (Juniors) tackle nearby mountains during the day and returning in time for dinner at camp. This initial experience equips them with hiking fundamentals without the need for an overnight stay away from the familiar camp environment.
As campers grow older, their outdoor excursions become more demanding. They tackle tougher mountain trails, embark on canoe expeditions, and even experience overnight stays in the wilderness. Middler trips, which include these adventures, are optional and available several times during each session.
Senior campers can opt for the exhilarating challenge of conquering Mt. Washington over a two-night excursion or embark on a memorable paddling journey along the Androscoggin River. These optional adventures are available multiple times during each session, offering seniors the chance to push their limits and create unforgettable memories.
Campers love our Challenge Course & Climbing Tower. With a combination of progressively challenging & thrilling obstacles and adventure elements – there is always something fun & exciting to try and do. In addition to the adventure aspect of these activities – campers are also given the opportunity to learn belaying, rappelling, and knot tying skills.
