Your summer starts here
Welcome to the team. Here’s what you need to get ready for life on the Knoll.
First things first
Once hired, you’ll receive a letter from the Executive Director, a contract, and a job description. Follow the letter’s instructions for the additional forms you need to complete and return.
Study the Staff Handbook before camp, and check with the office for the current season’s documents and deadlines.
Keep these handy
Read the handbook as part of your preparation. The linked edition is from 2024; confirm the current handbook with camp.
Get to know the qualities and responsibilities William Lawrence Camp values in its leaders.
Practical information to help you prepare for the staff experience.
Use the camp office’s instructions to complete and return this permission form.
Ready for the Knoll
Pack for active days, cool nights, rain, and summer heat. Layers and good rain gear are especially useful in New Hampshire.
Camp provides a pillow and sleeping bag for staff flying in, so you don’t need to pack those items.
A group shopping trip is planned during staff training, but it may be a few days after arrival. Bring enough toiletries to get you through those first days.
Plan your journey
Your arrival date depends on your role, training, and any certification courses. Confirm this season’s dates and pickup arrangements with the camp office before booking travel.
Camp’s usual travel coordination points are Manchester, Concord, and West Ossipee, New Hampshire. Share your itinerary with the office so the team can confirm what assistance is available.
Staff flying into Boston Logan generally continue by bus to Concord Transportation Center. Allow time for that connection and confirm the plan with camp. Boston pickups require specific arrangements.
Your home for the summer
William Lawrence Camp sits on more than 250 acres, mostly woodland, beside Lower Beech Pond in Tuftonboro, New Hampshire. Nearby Wolfeboro is about a 15-minute drive away, with shops, restaurants, a library, pharmacies, banking, and a hospital.
The White Mountains and the New Hampshire and Maine coasts offer possibilities for time off. Plan your travel and return times with camp.
Camp offers transportation to Wolfeboro for time off. Ask the team about the current schedule. Travel farther afield requires advance planning; do not assume public transportation or rideshare service will be available.
For larger shopping trips, Laconia and North Conway are at least about 45 minutes from camp.
